“Forged in the shadows of the neo-urban sky dwellings of Vancouver, B.C., PRIMES has emerged. Band members Tanya Pea and Jack Duckworth (JJD), along with Erik “The Weekend Warrior” West, make music with an uncanny future industrio techno-punk worldview. Jagged-edged music that would sound at home in sets by Optimo, Justice or other such eclectic music DJ's. This band, keen on cutting-edge technology, has a unique off-kilter sound; the signal is flickering and you can't quite locate it, but you're compelled to continue listening to suss it out.” - ML TRONIK, XLR8R MAGAZINE The members of Primes converge from varied and distinct backgrounds. Tanya Pea has been producing visual environments and performing sonic alchemy at raves as Isis alongside the likes of Autechre and Orbital for over a decade. She also releases bleeps + beats solo. Jack Duckworth (JJD) brings his post-punk history into the mix from his years playing in seminal Vancouver bands Radio Berlin and A Luna Red. JJD and Tanya Pea collaborate as The Wax Museum, designing cutting-edge graphics and new media for artists worldwide. Erik West, a member of old school techno acts Phaedra and Hemisphere, is the final part of the Primes equation. Primes don’t hesitate to take cold hard looks at the world as we know it with Facades and Pink Forms, although the upbeat programming and occasional sweet vocal deliveries could fool one into thinking otherwise. Recorded by Primes, mixed by Loud Chris Demarcus (Front Line Assembly, Black Halos, Dismantled), with additional production by Ricardo Almeida (Duchess Says, Dandi Wind, Put The Rifle Down) and Erik West (releases on 20/20 Vision Records), this 11-track genre-bending record only scratches the surface of Primes’ lengthy future itinerary. After an appearance at the internationally-renowned New Forms Festival, Primes will move outward with dates in the Eastern US/Canada and the UK in late 2007 and onward into 2008. |
